As I watched news in the past few days I have often found myself in this debate whether there is any difference between humanity and insanity.
In Bhagalpur, in August this year, a cop was seen dragging a man, tied to his bike through the city’s lanes and yet the human rights committee gave the cop a clean chit. Not only he has been cleared of any act of violation of human rights but has also been reinstated to his duty. Now on the one hand is the nation watching the brutality, on the other is the human rights committee’s report. Make no mistake; the politicians were not behind in carrying out their duty of politicising the whole episode.
Godhra riots took place in 2002… Godhra fast track court has convicted eight people with life imprisonment. Rulings are given, judgements announced but what about the lives those were lost? Families are incomplete, livelihood and employment are at it’s lowest and the memories still haunt. The loss cannot be repaid nor can any sentence bring solace to one and yet we are involved in caste politics. Seems like we haven’t learnt the lesson…
How can we – the citizens of humanity, be so callous while beating a pregnant women and her son? Kerala has the highest percentage of literacy rate in the country and still we did not adhere to the moral act of showing some respect but continued to showcase our cowardice on mere suspicion of her being a thief?
Now a –days there are more cases of mass justice being reported. But are these really justice being done? Can justice be more important than one’s life?
It did not take long for the fake sting operation to unveil the school teacher Uma Khurana was involved in human trafficking. But by the time truth surfaced, her clothes had been torn, she was humiliated and probably many of us watching the news even cursed her.
Even if for a moment we give the mob the benefit of being grieved and furious at the teacher’s conduct, then why can’t we hold similar rallies when Pravin Mahajan is at his best to defame the late BJP leader Pramod Mahajan? Or why not march to the Left’s leaders’ houses and tell them that the people of this country want the nuclear deal to be signed. Where is the common man in all these ‘matters’? Why are they not speaking out for issues that really concern the growth of this country?
Why no one from the media or the cameraperson who was shooting stood up for the pregnant lady? Will anyone provide peace in the lifetime of viciousness? And most importantly can we fight this insanity?
I don’t the have answers to any of the questions… but there is a world that I have envisioned for myself and for our people. Let the history narrate to the world that we’ve lived in the world that ‘WE’ perceived.

Evils like these have been in our society even before. Its just that they are coming to light now because of the active role of media. We have to understand that media also most often airs and at times sensationalizes issues for commercial benefit. So eventually the onus lies on the citizens to awaken for the sake of humanity and development of our country. It is great discussing these issues at forums like this one, but each one of us has to do our bit by at least voting for the right government, the leaders which will clear the muck because a lot of these concerns are attributed to bad politics. How many of us are actually registered voters? Or even if we are, do we bother to exercise the right to vote? As the saying goes charity begins at home!
Good going Abhilasha at least people are talking about something other than Shahid and Kareena's break up and emergency in Pakistan!
What say guys?
