The Financial GLOBAL TSUNAMI !!!

The Melt down had to happen, but it would be so sudden and sharp - that it will consume all the Nations and will Jitter GLOBAL ECONOMY, which has affected one and all and has brought all of us to unimaginable situation or cross roads of our lives and careers will be re-shaped.

If we look at the pain each one of us is going through, because we were not prepared even 1% of the this BAD HIT. The Indian Economy, has been hit below the belt, while Western / European Economies have been hit on the FACE by this BIG FALL - The Financial Catastrophe. I think and feel this BIG FALL has made me more mature suddenly by accepting, experienceing the biggest GLOBAL FAILURE. I wish One and The Only One in my life time at the National / Global Level.

In India, though everyone including the experts from finance ministry and economic forums were saying we won't get affected, our economy is sound system is in place - the political punch line few days back "India is Andar se Majboot" - we are inherently strong it won't affect us!!!

But whats happening now, the cat - rat - dog race has started, every individual, every company and govt. is guarding itself and there are no strategies being discussed, just reactive tactics to sustain the life in these turbulent times. Only objective to live thru the STORM - Let this Financial Catastrophe gets over.....but no one knows when will it. Major Sectors have Freezed their Recruitments and we are reading news about re-trechment, salary cuts upto 90% LOW than the initial joining salary, Cos. have started focusing on cost cutting drives, no travels, virtual meetings are on. Panic is very much there. The Fears of financial repercussions are looming over each individuals mind. We have seen many torrid times of Political instability, Public unrest, War with Terror, Natural Disasters but this FINANCIAL TSUNAMI has hit us hard and unexpected. The lateral thinking has been lost. The Alternatives are not visible. Each one of us has been badly affected directly or indirectly

The unfortunate part for us Indians is it has happenned at the last year of the Govt. New elections are due in six months, in light of this the new initiatives will be limited & strategic planning has taken a toss atleast for two years.....the new elected Govt will plan and then implement the result of NEW INITITAIVES will be seen not before Agust 2011...Till the local intiatives will be limited by state govts. they don't plan the way Central Govt. does. They have limitations. They think local and regional, there is no unifromity in actions. 6 important states are due for State Assembly elections.

India's last 15 year favorite friend USA is unexpectedly is looking inwards after 73 years.
Indian govt., major corporates , Indian Share market, everybody is Clueless....The BIG DADDY they use to follow in terms of Knowledge, Skills and Attitude is down looking for bail out.
For last 15-20 years we have been dependent on US for Food for Thought so much it became a compulsory Feed, reading American Literature, Following American Ideology, following American Funda of Life and much more!!! So my friend things are grim but we have to find a way, many ways to keep our selves afloat and swim thru this Financial TSUNAMI.

I wish this period on Doldrums is over Early and we shall think Real, Act Practical and Live & Think - INDIAN.
Lets become IGNEOUS.
All The Best

I am Responsible!!!!

Breaking news on some Tv channels

Aajtak: Pita hi hai kaatil

Headlines Today: Headlines today cracks Aarushi murder mystery

Ndtv: Aarushi killed by her own father

.......

Some examples of how news channels draw its own conclusions even before the case has been presented in front of the judiciary.

Saw the Press conference the other day. The IG did not even know who was killed. He did not even know her name. Kept calling her Shruti. Noida Police have thrown themselves in a weird position now. The IGs statement was contradictory. On one hand he said that Aarushi was aware of her fathers extra marital affair and on the other hand he said that Aarushis father caught her in an objectionable position with the servant. I feel sorry for Noida Police and more so for the beautifully designed news channels we have in this country.

I hold the news channels responsible for spoiling a familys life. Why do they have their reporters stationed 24 X 7 outside Mr talwars house? Are they waiting for Nupur Talwar to commit suicide so that they can get some more spicy content out of it? Havent they got enough content as it is? Will these channels apologise to the nation if Mr talwar is held not guilty in this case?

The other day Nupur Talwar was interviewed by Ndtv. Other channels started analyzing this interview. Some said that Nupur Talwar did not even shed a tear so may be she's also involved. Now if she cries it would make 'great footage' and if she doesnt then shes also involved in the killing. When will this trial by media end?

I agree that each news channels has its own TG but there a lot of other people who are watching them apart from that defined TG. Are the news channels going to be punished for showing such irresponsible content on air? Is there a content code for news channels? If there is, are they following it? Who is keeping a tab on it? Do we all love watching anchors making a fool of themselves on headlines today? Do we like Khali so much that we don't want to know anything happening around the world? Are these really news channels or entertainment channels? Is there ever gonna be ONE reporter or a journalist who would put his/her foot down and say that i don't want to be stationed outside somebodys house throughout the day?

Will we ever get answers to these questions? I guess not!

If this is what news channels have to offer then i thank my stars that im in radio not TV.

Content is King!

Will private fm radio stations continue to air endless chatter that is devoid of quality content? Is music the only reason people tune into radio? Do the listeners want to hear shows that make value addition to their life? Can we make radio an appointment medium and not just a non intrusive, low involvement medium … just something that plays in the background? Therez a long way to go….

Every time you hear the familiar twang of radio jockeys, trying to deliver breathlessly the best they can in the shortest possible time, trying to sound as funny and cheerful as possible. Or every time you hear that same old bollywood mimickery ad break, or the “wannabe” funny, self proclaimed kings of comedy; you quickly switch to the station that’s playing music.
My point is that if we as radio people push the bar for the kind of content we provide while R.Js talk, then people will not switch off, rather get hooked on to the station. If R.Js talk about social issues which affect you and me, intellectually stimulating and opinion generating issues then will people switch off? I believe however uneducated or unaware a person is, he or she has strong opinions about something, be it power cuts, working mothers or rising prices. I am sure people don’t always want to hear about love problems, bollywood gossip or cricket! At least this way radio stations will land up sounding different from one another… for the kind of stuff they talk about. If they all continue playing the same music, same ads, talking about the same stuff, then god help the CEOs, COOs, stake holders and whoever else directly bears the brunt of competition!

Reservation

Can anyone explain why the creamy layer is excluded only from OBC reservation in central higher educational institutions and not SC/ST reservation for the same? It seems illogical and unfair!

Education: the process of rattafication and passing examination..???!!!

Pay 3-8 Lakh rupees and you'll get one of the much sought after MBA/engineering/computer/media/fashion/law degrees with a little bit of number crunching! Now academic excellence, intellectual mindset, pursuit of knowledge, these facets stand faceless in front of fat salaries and the lures of big cities and corporate life. Our government and private institutes of education, save a few are becoming factories that produce the so called professionals at an alarming rate. Degrees and certificates serve as stamps, as unseen markers that give us a space and identity in the rat race for jobs. The mushrooming coaching institutes, student suicides, fake degree rackets, these evils symbolise the increasing pressure on our education system.
What say we go back to the ancient system of gurukul education? Have we moved too far away from that? For education is now a mere process of "rattafication" (mugging up) and passing examinations!

Emotional Baggage

Is Baggage a hindrance to free living? Any kind of baggage shall restrict you, shall hold you, shall pull you, stress you more and even suffocate you. I can say it tests you.

What is baggage? It is an interesting question, if you ask me. If this question hasn’t arisen yet in your mind, that means you are a free being, enjoying life more than many others.

Dictionary definitions of baggage make the picture clearer: ‘Baggage: Superfluous or burdensome practices, regulations, ideas, or traits’. Do you really think an look into dictionaries for all literal meanings for answers to all worries or reasons of unhappiness? – No. Carrying dictionaries can become a baggage most of the times. The moment we are overloaded, we carry baggage. And our visions and energies get limited. Our mind rightfully starts thinking of an opportunity to offload it as early as possible. The mind’s defense mechanism starts working and our focus changes from free, liberal pursuits to me, myself and my baggage. Isn’t it true? I don’t know your answer, but it holds true for me.

But I can tell you, this baggage has some advantages also. It has made me do things which I wasn’t confident of. It has tested me and I can proudly say I passed many times and failed equally too. I have run more miles than I should have. I have read more book than I could have. I have shared more than I could have, I have loved more than I should have. It has made me come so far, and widened my perspectives and horizons. It has made me transparent, it has helped me explore more. It always gave me more. At times I used to question is more Is less? Or is less more? But today I am very clear, Less is more!!!

I pray we all should be baggage free and live not to prove ourselves unto ourselves.

Media Education For Free?

Media Education For Free?
School of Convergence Makes it Possible

One of the great boons of modern technology is the near inexhaustible availability of education material through the cyber medium. But, while so much material is available for one who seeks, the fact also remains that there are several disciplines where cyber-education has either not been possible or has not been attempted whole-heartedly. Media education is one such area where complete and exhaustive programmes have not been offered for wholly valid reasons. Indeed, there are websites where one can download lessons on a variety of topics or even complete curricula pertaining to media studies. But no effort to impart education in television can be complete without a student handling the camera or sitting at the editing table to edit or participating in the sweat and grime of shooting. We spoke to Prof Subodh Lal, Executive Director of the School of Convergence, about what he called 'the inevitability of online media education.' Excerpts from an interview.

We hear that your institute is launching an online media education programme. It sounds strange that an institute, such as yours, which has its own on-campus programmes should be launching online programme which might result in harming the on-campus programmes. How come?
Yes, we are shortly launching an online programme, and I do not see how it would harm us. Our thinking is that as a responsible institute, we should try and impart media education not just to those who come and join our on-campus programmes, but also to those who may, for whatever reason, may not be able to join regular classes. The online course has a different beneficiary group compared to those who come and join programmes at the School.

But will not the online course be less expensive than your on-campus programmes? So will not the student community go for the less expensive model?
Let me give you a surprise. The online course is free! Yes completely free.

Doesn’t that make your on-campus courses all the more unattractive?
Not at all, in fact. As I said earlier, the audiences are different. We recognize that there are so many young people who have deep interest in pursuing education and career in media and entertainment industry. And we fully understand why. With the media and entertainment industry growing at a rate far higher than the rate at which GDP is growing, more and more jobs are getting created here. Young persons see this great opportunity and want to seize it. But those who are already in jobs, or those who cannot afford the comparatively expensive media education in the private sector, will surely benefit from our online programme. On the other hand, again, the young person today surely understands that a full-time on-campus programme with daily interaction with faculty, access to library, availability of equipment, hand-on projects and interaction with eminent guest speakers are some of the compelling reasons why a lot of students will still go for on-campus programmes. Remember, with all the Correspondence Courses still available the better colleges can not accommodate the rush of aspirants seeking admission.

Online programme, and that, too, for free! That sounds incredible. Why should you spend all that money on something that does not directly benefit your School?
We believe that our responsibility goes well beyond catering to only those who come to us and pay money. Education is our credo and we want to spread it. We have a responsibility, too, towards the media and entertainment industry. After all, the School of Convergence was created by Bobby Bedi, Pradeep Gupta and Paranjoy Guha Thakurta because, among other reasons, they were all media persons and knew that there was a terrible shortage of trained persons in the industry. We want to continue to discharge that responsibility towards the media world.

Don’t you feel education in areas such as television or broadcast journalism would remain incomplete without practical work? In most institutes there is an element of hands-on training and internships. So how will the students of your online programme make up for that?
You are right. Practical work, participating in shoots, touching and using the camera – all such aspects are vital. We recognize that and, therefore, we propose to start short workshops for our online students. These workshops could either be during school and college vacations, in the evenings or over week-ends. There will be no compulsion on our registered online students to do these workshops, but if they feel the need, they will be offered alternatives as I have explained.

Would you also admit such students who might otherwise be pursuing some other course of study in another institute?
There is no such thing here as ‘admissions’. The seekers will admit themselves. After all, the portal will be an open one and the course, as we know, will be free. So why should there be any thought about disallowing anyone at all?

So how does one begin?
Simple, just wait for our announcement or log on to www.schoolofconvergence.com.

Power of Faith !!!

The Hindus have created a rich, complex mythology which is still very much alive. Hundreds of millions of people continue to believe in the multitudes of gods which inhabit the Hindu pantheon. This tapestry of religion is the result of millennia of integration. The Indian sub-continent has been a crossroad for several cultures, and the Indian people have incorporated numerous ideas from different faiths. - excerpts from "Hindu mythology"by Bernard Doyle

Wikipedia says - Faith can refer to a religion, or to belief in one or more deities. It has two general implications which can be implied either exclusively or mutually:

  • To trust:
    • To commit oneself to act based on self experience to warrant belief, but without absolute proof.[1] Mere belief on the basis of evidence is not faith. To have faith involves an act of will. For example, many people saw Blondin walk across the gorge below Niagara Falls on a tightrope, and believed (on the basis of the evidence of their own eyes) that he was capable of carrying a man on his back safely across. But only his manager Harry Colcord had enough faith to allow himself to be carried.
    • Believing a certain variable will act or has the potential to act a specific way despite the potential influence and probability of known or unknown change.
      • To have faith that one's spouse will keep a promise or commitment.
      • To have faith that the world will someday be peaceful.
      • To have faith that a person will pay you back.
      • To have faith that you will be okay despite adversity.
      • To have faith in one's full dependence on the will of supernatural forces or deities.
  • To believe without reason:
    • Believing impulsively, or believing based upon social traditions or personal hopes.
  • A means to assume belief in something.
    • To have faith in a process. (Faith in the Law)
    • To have faith in a source or resource. (Faith your pay check or employment)
    • To have faith in a method to obtain. (work hard, lie, cheat, buy, trade, be attractive, etc.)
    • To have faith in the pathway to a specific desire. (The fastest way to a man's heart is his stomach.)
      • Faith is the development of pathways through doubt. With certain resistances to life, wishing to obtain more life force cause us to develop means and methods to overcome the resistance. For example: With the development of farming and grocery stores the ability to get necessary food has became easier, takes less time and allows for more living. Everyone still has to eat, but the means of obtainment has shifted. Our forefathers used to pray to God for a good crop, as that was part of their faith. Many farmers still do that for us, but now many us pray that the paycheck hits the bank before the cable bill.
      • When something is wanted and there stands doubt between your current condition of need and the thing desired, systems of faith are employed. A person will first work existing pathways already established by faith. If they fail, they will seek to develop other pathways by faith, not knowing for sure if the path they pursue will provide the object they seek.
      • The desire for things dominates the application of faith. Many of those actively applying faith to specific pathways seek less tangible things, such as love, peace, harmony, or even eternal life. Faith is an individual path. Just because it worked for one person, doesn't mean it will work for another. Just because I went to my place of employment and got the paycheck with my name doesn't mean that my brother can do the same. He has to establish his own means to obtain things.

In either case, faith is based upon the interpretation of the intangible (feelings, emotions, etc.) instead of the physically tangible and is primarily associated with religion in modern times.

According to the Bible, "faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see" (Hebrews 11:1, New International Version).

If you can't have faith in what is held up to you for faith, you must find things to believe in yourself, for a life without faith in something is too narrow a space to live.
George E. Woodberry

We think having faith means being convinced God exists in the same way we are convinced a chair exists. People who cannot be completely convinced of God’s existence think faith is impossible for them. Not so. People who doubt can have great faith because faith is something you do, not something you think. In fact, the greater your doubt the more heroic your faith. - Real Preacher Blog

Finally to conclude - Faith is the most POWERFUL feeling. The world revolves round FAITH. It is intangible but most precious. We long to have faith in others & others to have faith in us. We discuss FAITH in our minds in and out....we believe in FAITH...Faith makes us WORK.

Valentined with Himalayas

Hey Its my First Valentine of 21st Century and I had none other than Great Himalayas !! It makes me feel no less than Sir Admund Hillary & Sir T.S. Sherpa !! Hooray !!
